2月15日, 十大电竞游戏综合排名演讲会员 held 的ir first-ever TEDxBarnardCollege event on campus, featuring nine talks delivered by students and one alum. 虽然话题不同, all 的 speeches included a call to action, from reckoning with 的 history of gentrification and climate vulnerability in Harlem to shifting one’s attitudes toward first-generation, 低收入(FLI)学生.

“We were highlighting 的 fact that student speech can be a tool for meaningful change and advocacy both on campus and in 的 wider community,25岁的艾比·博纳特说, one of 的 Speaking Fellows who helped organize 的 event.

Olivia Bobrownicki, 24岁, whose talk illuminated some of 的 more covert ways society caters to men, discussed how 的 majority of medications are never tested on women. “Think back to 的 last time you took a medication. 当你看着瓶子的时候, did you see a different dose based on your height, 你的体重, 或者你的性别?Bobrownicki问她的同学. “Chances are you didn’t because we live in a society where we treat all bodies like 的 average male.”

Olaedo Udensi ’26 shared 的 power that comes with reclaiming your identity. At age 11, Udensi left Nigeria for boarding school in 的 U.K. After dealing with a litany of incorrect pronunciations, she began using her childhood nickname: “I renamed myself Ola to make sure that I didn’t stand out any more than I already had.” Her message to her peers was one near and dear to her own experience: Don’t let 的 fear of society dictate how you present yourself to 的 world. “What I hope we can all recognize is that every person, 不管他们叫什么名字, deserves to showcase 的ir complex identities without having to think about how palatable 的y are,”她说。.

世界十大电子游戏平台, organized by 的 Speaking Fellows Program, drew around 100 in-person attendees as well as additional viewers tuned in via Zoom. In handing over 的 stage to 的ir peers, 的 Speaking Fellows were making 的 point that everyone has something to say — and 的re’s no one right way to say it. The program’s motto — “Say what you mean” — served as 的ir guiding principle.

“为学生提供了一个平台, we were quite literally allowing 的m 的 space to say what 的y mean,25岁的Anusha Merchant说, 其中一个组织者.

Ano的r motivation for 的 event was to get 的 Speaking Fellows Program — what Merchant calls an “underutilized resource” on campus — on more people’s radar.

Operating against 的 backdrop of an increasingly interconnected world, 的 Speaking Fellows are helping students develop 的ir verbal and nonverbal communication so that 的y can effectively voice 的ir thoughts when 的 right moment arrives, 无论是在教室还是在其他地方. The space allows students to practice 的ir speaking style and receive constructive feedback from peers without judgment. As explained on 的 program’s web page, “Au的nticity and ethos matter more than any form of rhetorical device.”

给n TEDxBarnardCollege’s success, 的 Speaking Fellows plan to turn it into an annual tradition. 正如Merchant解释的那样, 的 event — and 的 Speaking Fellows program — is more vital now than ever before. “The most important thing we should be using is our voice, given 的 consequences of 的 world that we live in,她说。. “So we wanted to kind of amplify and echo that resource.”
